Site Superintendent

Overview

We are seeking a Site Superintendent I  to join our client based in Hamilton Wentworth,ON. The ideal should be a candidate responsible for the safe, organized, and predictable execution of assigned scopes or smaller design-build projects

The role carries direct accountability for site safety performance, schedule adherence within assigned scopes, quality of work in place, inspection readiness, and site organization. While commercial decisions, staffing strategy, and contractual matters remain with the Project Manager and GSS, also expected to exercise strong execution judgment and resolve routine site issues independently.

Responsible For

  • Lead daily site execution for assigned scopes or small projects, coordinating trades, logistics, sequencing, and work plans to ensure safe and efficient operations.

  • Act as the primary on-site lead for retrofit, alteration, or box-in-box projects under General Site Superintendent oversight.

  • Enforce the company health, safety, and environmental standards through toolbox talks, inspections, and immediate correction of unsafe conditions.

  • Develop and manage daily work plans and rolling 3+ week look-ahead schedules to support efficient trade sequencing.

  • Identify and resolve routine site constraints, escalating higher-risk issues with clear impacts and recommendations.

  • Coordinate and direct subcontractors, ensuring accountability for safety, quality, productivity, and conduct.

  • Oversee quality control for assigned scopes, ensuring work meets drawings, specifications, and company standards, and that deficiencies are closed.

  • Prepare sites for inspections by consultants, authorities, and clients, ensuring readiness and follow-up.

  • Maintain accurate site documentation, including daily reports, manpower tracking, inspections, safety records, and deficiencies.

  • Coordinate RFIs, site instructions, and design clarifications with the project team.

  • Manage material deliveries, hoisting, laydown, temporary services, and site access.

  • Communicate daily progress, risks, and accomplishments to project leadership.

  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping, organization, and site logistics.

  • Support site closeout, including deficiencies, inspections, permits, and turnover documentation.

  • Mentor junior field staff and reinforce company standards and safety culture.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and sharing lessons learned

Specific Skills

Technical Skills:
  • Proven experience in welding and fabrication is required.
  • 4–7 years of construction experience, including 2–3 years in a site leadership role on commercial, industrial, or design-build projects.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts, with sound judgment on constructability and sequencing issues.
  • Solid knowledge of construction methods, sequencing, building codes, and inspection processes for ICI or industrial projects.
  •  Proven ability to coordinate multiple trades, manage short-term schedules, support inspections, and drive deficiencies and closeout.
  •  Strong commitment to safety and quality, with active enforcement of site standards and required safety certifications.
  • Proficient with digital field tools for reporting, documentation, and communication, with adaptability to new systems.

Educational Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architectural Technology, or related field; equivalent trade and site experience considered.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to work full-time on site, including occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
